This is a particularly fine example of early Victorian Berlin work. Its typically executed, with wool yarn on canvas worked in a single stitch in many colours and hues - producing this intricate three-dimensional look by careful shading. The tray also delights the eye with the beads that have been used as highlights, in many colours including metallic.
It appears to be intact - which has been helped by the inclusion a a glazed top, which has no chips or cracks. The frame itself is in a wonderful double layer - a complimentary mahogany and an ebonised wood. There are some signs of ageing to the wood, but nothing that detracts.Green baize, in very good condition, to the underneath. Measures approx 22 inches x 10.5 inches.
