Rare Size Late 19thC East Anatolian KAGIZMAN Rug Classic Stepped Mihrab Design
Colorful Antique East Anatolian "Stepped Mihrab" design KAGIZMAN long rug/runner. It is quite rare to find a Kagizman with the stepped mihrab design coming in a longer format like this specimen. This example dates from the end of the 19th century to circa 1900. The exact size is: 3'-7" x 10'-0" (110 x 310 cm). This eclectic eye-dazzler of a runner is all wool in construction with both natural and non-natural dye lots. The natural dark brown wool warps and wefts leads me to believe that this weaving is a product of a Kurdish weaver living in the area between Kagizman and Kars. It exhibits allover evenly low pile condition with no rips, holes, or tears, but there are some minor areas of past professional artistic restoration in the field. The side cord over-castings are original and complete. Both endings are original and complete and are now sewn secure to prevent any future loss of structure. The rug is strong and sturdy and floor worthy. With a quality padding placed underneath for protection, this lively, colorful eye-dazzler of an authentic antique Kagizman Kurd runner is ready for immediate use as a decorative tribal textile art floor rug in any room of your home or office. NOTE: To view a published antique Kagizman rug in a normally found size rather than in a runner format, please refer to: K. Fritzche, ORIENTAL RUGS: TURKISH, Page 188.
