VERY HIGH CARAT GOLD ACCORDING TO A JEWELLER. This is a beautiful elegant ring that could be worn every day, as well as being a rare appreciating investment. The hoop of the ring is made from beaded gold with an oval bucket setting holding a carnelian gemstone. It is made from a very high carat gold with a lovely patina and colour with a vibrant red carnelian.
This type of ring dates from the end of Roman Britain to the Saxon Migration period according to the experts I have shown it to. I was also told that this design is known as a Thetford type ring as it is similar to one found in the Thetford treasure, although I have not researched this fact so please check this for yourself. It was found by a local museum in the 1960s near the site of a Roman villa and Saxon burials on our farm in Lincolnshire. It has been in my private collection since and I have now decided to sell it.It is a very wearable ring in a lovely antique condition with some wear to the outer edge of the beading and a few tiny scratches to the carnelian gemstone face hardly noticeable. Please study the photos carefully as they form an important part of the description. See photo with a ring sizer for size. Please contact me for any more information or photos.
