A Large Rare Mid 19th C Ceramic Deep Bowl With 2 Royal Members Hunting on Elephants. A rare and beautiful "Bulloch" deep bowl with hunting scene made in mid 1800s by J&M P Bell Glasgow for the Burmese/Thai royal upper class market. Maritime trade flourished in the 19th C with many East India trading companies trading spices, silk, ceramic and porcelain wares, etc in South East Asia and North Asia, notably China. The pottery of J&M P Bell & Co was based in Glasgow and Scotland's largest industrial pottery in the 19th century. A large number of ceramics exported to South East Asia by Bell's pottery were acquired by the museums in the 1980s.
Such pieces are hard to come by in today's market and a rare piece not to be missed by collectors. The bowl is marked with J&M Bell's logo as seen.
Condition : Enamel wears in commensurate with age. A hairline visible from the outer body and a couple of hairlines branches out within the foot rim. A nick at the foot rim as seen from the photos. Width:26.3 cm Height: 9 cm.
